In the heart of the Maremma - Toscana

The Podere San Luigi is located in the so-called "Maremma", an area that stretches from the province of Livorno across southern Tuscany to northern Lazio, just before Rome.

The Maremma was originally inaccessible swampland, which attempts were made to drain and make fertile throughout the ages. Cultures such as the Etruscans, the Romans, the medieval Aldobrandeschi family and the Medici inhabited the area and left their mark.

Today the Maremma is characterized by agriculture - primarily wine and olives, but also sheep and cattle - and low-impact tourism. There are some of the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany to discover, several villages where time seems to have stood still, natural thermal baths and even snow-covered mountain peaks in winter.

Like many of the medieval towns in the Maremma, Gavorrano is located on a hill to protect it from the former swamp. However, the former thermal resort of Bagno di Gavorrano is part of the newer district in what is now a fertile valley.
